Prior to Pioneer Day, volunteers spend countless hours
getting tractors ready to be driven down Spring Street
for the annual Pioneer Day parade. After the parade,
they are displayed at the Pioneer Museum.
A small print shop shows old-fashioned hand-set type used long before computers came into use. Each letter had to be individually picked up, placed on a special "job stick," used for printing and then returned to its own slot in a tray of type so it would be ready to be used again.
The invention of the Linotype machine made it much easier to produce type because it mechanically created a line of type that was used for printing. The lines of type (either hand-set or from the Linotype machine) were printed on presses like the one on display.
Need a hospital bed? The chair on the left is a combination hospital bed and wheel chair. The footrest comes up, the back goes down, and presto! -- it's a bed! The chair on the right is a dentist chair . . . and you thought your dentist's modern chair was uncomfortable?!
